In 1969, twenty-three-year-old starlet Lori Lovely shocks the world by giving up her film career to take vows as a Benedictine nun. In 19909, Lu Tibbott is trying desperately to complete her senior theses in American history, and decides to write about her Aunt Lori, now the Mother Abbess at a cloistered convent in New England. Mother Lori has never talked about her decision, but tells Lu that if she's ready to listen, she will talk.
This was a fascinating look at old Hollywood and its shiny pull on a young woman, and the resultant trouble that can bring. I liked how the story played out, with dual timelines as Lori tells her story to Lu, and Lu's story of listening and recording. It's mysterious as the reader tries to understand what would make someone leave the spotlight and just what secrets Lori is keeping. I loved Lori's journey of peace and acceptance and the end was so emotional. Great read!
