Many thanks to NetGalley, Henry Holt & Co, and Macmillan Audio for gifting me both a digital and audio ARC of this wonderful debut novel by Heather Aimee O'Neill, perfectly narrated by Kristen Sieh. This book was just picked as the October Read With Jenna selection! All opinions expressed in this review are my own - 5 stars!
It's been years since the three Ryan sisters were all home together at their family's home on Long Island. Two decades ago, their lives were upended by an accident on their brother Topher's boat. Each of the sisters are home for Thanksgiving but are each carrying a heavy secret, as well as the grief they all share. Far more than a family holiday will be ruined unless the sisters can find a way to forgive themselves—and one another.
What a wonderful debut - I couldn't put this one down. If I wasn't reading, I was listening to the audiobook, beautifully narrated including a wonderful Irish brogue for the matriarch. Anyone with siblings will immediately recognize the family drama, even if the situations are different. I loved the messiness, the secrets, the fears, the faith, and the family of all this. It's not a long book, but the characters felt so real and fleshed out, both individually and as a group, and I liked all of them. This is the perfect book to read before your messy family get togethers this holiday season. Hard to believe this is a debut and I can't wait to see what's next from this author!
