Many thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster | Avid Reader Press for gifting me a digital ARC of the new book by Susan Orlean. All opinions expressed in this review are my own - 4.5 stars rounded up!
Joyride is the story of Orlean's life and career, where every day is an opportunity for discovering something new. The prolific author first came to my attention with The Library Book, showcasing not only an event in history with the worst library fire, but more importantly, talking about what libraries mean to so many people. That's how she writes - exploring something new, going into it wide eyed, and giving a unique perspective.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, from her beginning in her literary field to current times, talking about both her personal and professional life, as well as lessons for would-be writers or creatives on the many steps towards achieving goals. Her nonfiction never reads boring or stilted - she has a unique capacity to bring words, people, and events to life. I also enjoyed reading some of her full articles at the end of the book. Wonderful!
