8.29.2025 - The Break-in

The Break-In by Katherine Faulkner

Many thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books | Scout Press for gifting me a digital ARC of the latest thriller by Katherine Faulkner.  All opinions expressed in this review are my own - 4.5 stars!

Alice, a professional mother of one, is hosting a playdate with friends at her upscale London home when a disturbed man breaks in. With her child in the next room, Alice panics and kills him.  While it's ruled self-defense and everyone tries to encourage Alice to move on with therapy life, she can't help but to become obsessed with the killer and his family.  Only to discover that everyone seems to be lying and keeping secrets, including her.

I have enjoyed Faulkner's previous novels and this one was wonderful as well.  It's so well written and twisty, leaving the reader questioning every event and every person.  Told from multiple POV and both before and after the break in, these characters and their emotions felt real - guilt, revenge, jealousy, betrayal, obsession, fear.  The storyline kept twisting up until that final ending - perfection!
