Lucy and Tom have moved to Surrey with their children, Jacob and Ava, for a clean start after Ava experienced bullying in school. On a beautiful day, they decide to have a BBQ in their backyard and invite their friends and neighbors., including Jacob's girlfriend, Rose. The next day, Lucy receives a call from Carrie, Rose's mom, that she never returned home after the BBQ. Jacob walked her home and said he saw her go into the house and she was never seen again. But things just aren't adding up.
This story is told mostly from the POV of the two moms, Lucy and Carrie. Both are anxious to believe only the best of their children and Lucy especially won't listen to any talk of Jacob being guilty. Everyone seems to be hiding secrets and withholding information. There are plenty of twists and turns in this one and I had a tough time putting it down!
