Many thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster | Atria Books for gifting me a digital ARC of the latest thriller by Nicole Baart. All opinions expressed in this review are my own - 4.5 stars rounded up!
Sadie and Felix are on sabbatical from their university positions and move to Felix's childhood home in the mountains of Washington State. One morning, Felix leaves for a conference in California and doesn't return. As a storm bears down, she discovers she's not alone on the property and will be forced to ride out the weather with strangers.
This was so atmospheric - alone in a remote location, creepy house, and of course a storm. We also get background information on Sadie and Felix's relationship periodically which deepens their connection to the reader. This was the perfect combination of tension-filled mystery and emotional pulls. There were plenty of twists and turns along the way and a conclusion I definitely didn't see coming. Put this one on your winter reading list for sure!
