The Dove family is special in small town Dove Pond - they have special abilities. Like with Sarah, the librarian - the books speak to her and tell her what person needs a particular book. Or her sister Ava who can make a tea to help just the person who needs it. But Dove Pond as a town is in financial trouble. When a new town clerk Grace, comes to Dove Pond, Sarah's book tells her that she may be the one to save the town. But that's going to be a job because Grace has her own troubles. She is caring for her foster mom, Mama G, who is slipping away with Alzheimer's, and has care of her sister's daughter, Daisy.
There is a wonderful touch of magic in this book but it also touches on serious subjects such as trauma, Alzheimer's, family, community. I love books about books plus I loved each of these characters. I found myself laughing, tearing up, and rooting for all of them. Please hurry with book #2 - a highly recommended charming read! And the cover is beautiful as well!
